If you can't find bugs, you aren't looking closely enough at the kids. I frequently will see snails or slugs coming right out of kids' nostrils. Perhaps they mistake kids' noses for shells in which to live. I don't know for sure, but I think they breed up there. Can't believe you haven't noticed them...
