Here is a link to a color wheel.

How these work:
Complimentary colors are the ones directly across the wheel from each other. Triadic colors are the ones at the points of an equilateral triangle. The "split" complimentaries of a color are the ones immediately to the left and right of the original color's complimentary. (Wait, it gets better!) Analogous colors are the ones next to each other. Quarternary colors are the ones touched by the four corners of a rectangle. Each of these different groups of colors work together.
