Envelope Opt-Out

I've heard of people opting out of receiving paper bills (since so many pay their bills online now), but I kind of like the paper bill. But why don't businesses offer the option of opting out of receiving the envelopes that come with bills?

Making that possible would save them a fortune, and would save trees, too. I don't particularly care about saving trees, because from what I can tell, there are plenty, but everyone seems to value saving trees, so I'm jumping on that bandwagon.

Let's make that envelope opt-out thing happen. Thanks.

My envelope, their envelope, an envelope still gets used so no trees get saved. Their envelope is smaller than mine, so I suppose technically a little smidge of a tree gets saved if I use their envelope.

Frankly, I am not sure where you get the whole "my envelope" "their envelope" idea. They are all our envelopes. We pay for them. It comes out of the money we send them as part of paying the bill, so technically there are no "their envelopes". They are all ours.

The catch here of course is that if they did away with sending us envelopes, that savings would never appear on our bills in the form of a cost reduction. That money would simply be "shifted" to another resource in the company.

In a related note, I always make sure to send back all the advertising that comes with my bills in the same envelope along with my payment. Since I am also paying for the postage for all these envelopes full of advertisement, I might as well get my money's worth out of it. Besides, we don't have recycling out here in the sticks, and I know that all these big corps do. So I am saving landfill space by doing that.

I'm going to start doing this.
