Note: She's Not Real

Ready to have your mind blown? And see how I've matured? Because I'm not making any reference to all the myriad jokes that "mind blowing" could inspire? See?

Anyway, check this video out. This woman is not real. CGI. Holy cow.

OH MY GOD! They totally took a girl and made a fake face that looked just like her! AWESOME!

I assume it's mind blowing because it's easier to use than motion capture or something?

Perhaps they could have done something more wowy to demonstrate it...

I mean, yes, the face looks very real, but the point of this technology would be to change a look--so why not do that with a demo?

The point is that up until now, CGI people have looked like, well, CGI people. Now, CGI looks so lifelike, you can literally do ANYTHING. It means you can turn a person inside out. You can make them grow hands from their cheeks. You can have them eat their own face. Realistically. I say we put those things into one movie. The best movie ever. I think the demo is meant to show the jumping off point. It's anything goes from here! Whee! (Oh, and I wrote a screenplay where someone turns inside out. Just for the record.)

This is a perfect example of what is wrong with YouTube. The video is not impressive because it is something which is intending on showing you how real the girl looks, but the chose a medium which has such crappy video quality that the extent of how real it looks is lost. Yeah, you can still tell that it is real-looking, but you can't really be impressed by it because your brain is too distracted because it is so busy trying to do anti-aliasing and sharpening, etc. And this is just the video end of it. Audio is just as bad, if not worse. Bottom line, FLV/SWF format simply sucks for live action.

What was wrong with .mpeg, .avi, or even .mov, anyway?

They could have made her boobies grow while she was talking. That would have been awesome.
